Health Education England’s (HEE) National Allied Health Professions Programme works across 14 professions and their associated professional bodies, regulators, and other stakeholders to optimise supply of AHPs, realise potential of the workforce and ensure a robust career pathway for all. Moving into the delivery phase of the new national AHP strategy ‘AHPs Deliver’ opportunities have arisen to be part of a new and unique development to support delivery this work.

HEE are seeking to recruit 1 WTE – National AHP Education & Training Leads (ODP) on a 22 months fixed term or seconded contracts.

This posts forms part of 12 National AHP Education & Training Leads. Each team member focusing on one of the following professions: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Therapeutic Radiography, Arts Therapies (art, music and dramatherapy), Dietetics, Speech and Language Therapy, Operating Department Practitioner Podiatry, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Paramedicine, Orthoptics

Post holders will work individually and as a team to achieve a range of outcomes.

  • The ODP role is offered at 1.0 WTE due to specific workforce challenges within theatre capacity
  • Earlier stage of work within the Osteopathic profession work will continue with the Institute of Osteopathy
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic radiography are treated separately.
  • HCPC or GOC essential

Main duties of the job
The post holder with be part of a team that will be an operational arm of the HEE national AHP team and offer uni- professional focus on each of the allied health professions to:

  • Inform workforce planning in an intelligent way, maximising workforce supply and practice learning opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to build on HEE established inter-professional ways of working
  • Actively engage HEEs quality function to ensure challenges to learner experiences are addressed
  • Ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded into everything we do

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Be accountable for delivery of the programme by focusing on the outcomes
  • Lead the team, provide support and line management
  • Have a sound understanding of clinical and operational service delivery, and pre and post registration training
  • Provide subject matter expertise, advice, and leadership in relation to one of the AHP professions in the development and implementation of policy, strategy and specific programmes of work
  • Ensure their professional advice and delivery is underpinned by up-to-date knowledge and a strong evidence base to gain traction when delivering workforce transformation and/or optimising multi-professional education and training solutions
  • Have skills and experience in complex data gathering, analysis and report writing
  • Understand the equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) challenges for AHPs. Be able to challenge and improve any barriers to EDI
  • Required to demonstrate their authority and reputation in the chosen subject matter area through clinical and academic experience
  • Use skills and experience to provide advice and guidance to the designated national programme team and relevant stakeholders and will deliver designated activities that promote relevant workforce and education improvement and innovation
  • Have an existing and recognised profile with AHP stakeholder groups
  • Be willing and able to take on profession specific activity and multi-professional responsibilities e.g. attrition, placement growth etc. working in a matrix style
  • Be required to demonstrate their authority and reputation in the chosen subject matter area through clinical and academic experience

Experience
Essential criteria

• Experience of managing and delivering several complex initiatives simultaneously in rapidly evolving, political, and high-pressure environments including effective management of risk.
• Experience of working with senior colleagues in a range of organisations and dealing at senior level with diverse partners and agencies (public, private, and not for profit).
• Evidence of using skills and experience in complex data gathering and analysis.
• Presenting complex concepts in formal settings where challenge is likely.
• Significant experience within AHP workforce and education issues
• Experienced in the use of project and programme management approaches to towards the successful and timely supply of deliverables.

Desirable criteria
• A proven track record and highly experience in complex stakeholder management across a broad range of key stakeholders

Qualifications
Essential criteria

• Clinical qualification and relevant professional registration i.e., HCPC or GOC registration
• Masters Level or equivalent level of experience

Desirable criteria

  • Formal project management qualification

Essential criteria

• Recognised to have extensive knowledge of required specialist area – this may be demonstrated through relevant professional qualifications, e.g., professional body registration, postgraduate education or equivalent
• Understand the equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) challenges for AHPs and be able to challenge and improve any barriers to EDI
• Knowledge and understanding of designated national programme at the specific area of focus (AHP policy)
