Patient care is consultant led but we have a team of Resident Medical Officers based on the unit 24/7 and we are also supported by a critical care outreach team who support deteriorating patients.

What we’re looking for

As the Lead Recovery Practitioner, you will provide specialist practice advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives.

You will have direct influence on the budget attached to their clinical area[s] of responsibility and work both clinically and managerially within the designated area[s] of responsibility, leading a team of Operating Theatre Practitioners.

This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week (typically 5 x 7.5 hour shifts). The attractive salary will be competitive dependent on skills & experience (with an additional 4% shift enhancement) plus benefits.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Operating Theatre Manager in their leadership role, supporting with the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Leading a team of operating theatre practitioners, ensuring that all care is provided in accordance with HCA Policies.
  • Participate in staff education and development, including orientation and supervision and act as a mentor and resource for learners and the department team.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care actively seeking research findings which will support clinical practice as appropriate.
  • Participate in setting, monitoring and maintaining acceptable standards of care in conjunction with the Operating Theatre Manager/Operating Theatre Co-Ordinator.
  • Monitor the quality of care and action audit information to achieve best evidence based practice.
  • Help to control cross infection by enforcing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination, sterilisation procedures and asepsis.
  • Assist in the maintenance and promotion of effective communication channels with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Supervise the formulation of the monthly off duty, allocation of staff and booking of Bank Staff for authorisation by Operating Theatre Manager.
  • Delegation of tasks to junior staff deemed appropriate to their grade, skills and experience.

Skills and experience:

  • Registered Nurse or CGLI752 or NVQ Level III in ODP or ODP diploma is essential
  • Critical Care Course in at least one of the following: Post anaesthetic recovery with Pre-assessment or a Day Surgery Course or equivalent
  • Previous experience in managing a small team is highly desirable
  • Experience of running a Recovery Unit unsupervised is essential
